The breed originated in the southern United States where many varieties of dogs were cross bred to supply a breed suitable for trailing and treeing many different types of animals. The primarily red-tick coated English Coonhound stands 23 and 26 inches tall and the weight is according to the height. The breed is extremely active and loving, owners should be prepared for couch and bed hogs.
