Kangal

Average: 3.5 (2 votes)

The breed is thought to have originated in the Sivas province of central Turkey where the keepers of the Kangal take great pride in their abilities to guard their flocks of goat and sheep; the breed is so prized that exporting them is virtually forbidden. The mastiff-type guardian weighs 90 to 145 pounds and stands 28 to 32 inches tall. The Kangel needs a large amount of exercise and mental stimulation to keep destructive behaviors at bay.
