Kanni
The breed is originally found in Tirunelveli, Pollachi, Kovilpatti, Kazhugumalai, Kileral, Kodangipatti, Sivakasi, and Madurai of India where the Kanni is the rare and a prized pet of the people. The name Kanni which means unmarried girl comes from the fact that the breed was given to bride's groom as a gift just before the marriage. The average height of the almost extinct breed is 22 to 25 inches. The Kanni is known solely as a house pet and is forbidden to be on the streets of India.
