Poitevin

In 1692 the breed was developed to be a strong and courageous hunting dog that would control the wolf population that was overwhelming the western coast of France. Today, thought the Poitevin may excel at wolf hunting, the breed is used mainly for hunting deer and hare. The medium-sized pack hound weighs an average of 66 pounds and stands 24 to 28 inches tall. Since the Poitevin is a pack hound, they are most happy with other dogs rather than with a human family, and they are not well suited to be left alone. Also, the breed is not a friendly dog, so they do not do well with strangers or children.
