Stephens Cur

This breed was first found in southeastern Kentucky, where the Stephens Cur was bred by the Stephens family who wanted a better hunting dog. The breed does well at hunting squirrel and raccoon but also does extremely well at hunting in packs for bears and mountain lions. The Stephens Cur is a powerful and agile tree dog, varying from small to medium size; they stand 16 to 23 inches and their weight is in proportion to their height but is rarely over 55 pounds.
