The Wolf is part of the canine family, also known as Canidae, which is composed of seven different species: the Grey Wolf, the Red Wolf, the Eastern Wolf, the Ethiopian Wolf, the Maned Wolf, the Indian Wolf, and the Himalayan Wolf along with many subspecies. As a part of the canine family, it is believed that North American dogs are descendants of the wolf, and recent DNA examination suggests that all dog breeds descended from a single wolf gene pool.
