The breed is almost 100 years old descending from the southern plains of Portugal. Known as one of the most clever and devoted sheepdogs, the Cao da Serra de Aires has been known in Portuguese families for as long as they can remember. The small, herding breed stands at 16 to 22 inches and weighs 26 to 40 pounds. The breed is best known for loving its livestock and master above all else.
