Thought of as one of the oldest Australian breeds, the Koolie's origin is a mix of many different breeds brought to Australia in the 1800s to aid in herding. The diverse herding breed stands 15 to 22 inches tall and weighs 21 to 44 pounds. The quite healthy Koolie is suited for farm and working life, where they are happiest. Outstandingly, many of the Koolies have been known to reach ages of up to 26 years, with the average life span at 18 years.
