Initially the royal dog of Egypt, this breed may be the oldest known domesticated dog. The Saluki were held to such high honor that when they passed away their bodies were mummified like the bodies of the pharaohs. Though graceful, this breed is an avid hunter standing at 23 to 28 inches tall and weighing between 29 and 66 pounds. This cat-like hound can be taught to be obedient, but requires a great deal of patience.
