Originating in Mexico, the Xoloitzcuintli is one of the oldest purebred dogs, where it is claimed that it existed more than 3500 years ago. The Spanish/Mexicans believed that the breed has healing powers and was a part of their God Xolotl. The breed is well known as companions, healers and even regarded as meals. As some dogs are still served today in Mexico by people that believe the healing legends. The small breed stands at 13 to 21 inches and weighs between 9 and 31 pounds, depending on breed size. The Xoloitzcuintli are great with children and perfect family dogs.
