Australian Shepherd

Average: 4.4 (12 votes)

Despite the name, the breed was developed in the Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France. Their coat can range in a variety of colors ranging from black, red, or blue coat. They are best suited for an all-purpose farm and ranch style work. Australian Shepherds stand between 18 and 23 inches tall and weigh 40 and 65 pounds, this medium size dog requires daily vigorous exercise to maintain a happy lifestyle. The friendliness of the dog remains as long as they enjoy being around their family.

I thought this breed was developed in Texas,USA; this was in my book written about the Australian Shepherd. I can get you the title if you need. I have owned 3 Aussies now and love the dog breed. Around horses they are the smartest dogs I have owned. My 13 yr. old fixed male just died on day after his birthday, he had epilepsy. He was a beautiful red merel with one blue eye. I rescued him at the age of 2 1/2 yrs old. I have a blue merel fixed male that came out of a puppy mill rescue at the age of 7 months, he is 12 now and has developed thyroid problems per my vet. My 1st aussie was a female I bought for $75 at a cattle ranch, she loved working around cows and horses as the other two. I love the Australian Shepherd breed and just wish breeders would take care on over breeding them, they are a great breed.
Thanks from Florida
