The breed originated in the mountain region of Cantal during the 18th century where they were used as a versatile pointer and gun dog. Thought of as the best kept secret of the hunting world, the Braque d'Auvergne hunting breed stand at 22 to 24 inches and weighs 32 to 49 pounds. The breed is a close working hunters, being happiest when near their owners.
