Perro de Presa Canario
The breed was developed in the Canary Islands during the 1800s specifically for dog fighting. The Perro de Presa Canario nearly went extinct when dog fighting was outlawed, but a veterinarian revived the breed. The powerful and large breed stands 21 to 25 inches tall and weighs 85 to 130 pounds. The Perro de Presa Canario requires a firm, dominant owner, also being uncomfortable around the large breed does not help. In the wrong hands the dog can be dangerous, but with the right owner and training, the Perro de Presa Canario makes a devoted companion.
