Schweizer Niederlaufhund

In the early 1900s, the Schweizer Niederlaufhund was created from the Schweizer Laufhund to produce a shorter-legged and smaller hound that would be used for hunting in smaller areas. The standard size of the breed is not exactly known, but it is said to be smaller and shorter legged than the Schweizer Laufhund. There are four varieties of the Schweizer Niederlaufhund according to coat color and texture; the Small Bernese Hound that is tricolored with smooth or course hair, the Small Jura Hound that has a smooth single color, the Small Lucerne Hound which has a smooth speckled white coat, and the Small Schwyz Hound that has a smooth white coat.
